Our Story
The Trust was established on 7th September 1940 to support war widows and retired nurses who served during World War II. The land for the Trust’s activities was generously donated by Shri Chimanlal Maniklal Trivedi.
Over time, societal needs evolved, leading the Trust to redefine its objectives to address more relevant social challenges. The revised focus includes educational support, healthcare services, and various community welfare initiatives.
India is experiencing significant demographic changes. With longer life expectancy and declining birth rates, the population of people aged 60 and above is rapidly increasing. At the same time, the traditional joint family system is gradually giving way to nuclear families. Many children move to larger cities or abroad for opportunities, leaving elderly parents living alone and often facing emotional and physical challenges.
Recognizing this growing need, the Trust identified that many middle-class and upper-middle-class seniors struggle with managing households and coping with loneliness, which can impact both their mental and physical well-being.
The Trust’s vision of creating a peaceful, secure, and comfortable living environment for senior citizens became a reality with the generous financial support of the M. L. Pendse Foundation.
At Soham, the goal is to transform aging from a stage of concern into a fulfilling lifestyle where seniors can live happily, safely, and with dignity.
