The Idea Behind Anand Vruddhashram (A Free Old Age Home)
While organizing eye camps in remote villages, Tara Sansthan observed a harsh reality—many elderly individuals were living in extreme poverty and neglect, with no support system to rely on. These seniors were often destitute, lonely, and helpless, either abandoned by their families or subjected to neglect, humiliation, and ill-treatment.
Moved by this reality, Tara Sansthan resolved to establish a free old age home to provide shelter and care to such vulnerable elderly people. As a result, just three months after the establishment of Tara Sansthan’s first eye hospital, Anand Vruddhashram was inaugurated on 3rd February 2012.
Anand Vruddhashram was created to offer complete care—safe accommodation, nutritious food, clothing, medical support, recreation, and a warm, home-like environment, all entirely free of cost. While the concept initially received limited response from villagers, it soon gained strong support from urban communities, especially from the upper-middle-class population.
The home began with 45 beds and has since grown significantly. Today, Anand Vruddhashram in Udaipur operates from a modern, expanded campus accommodating 150 senior citizens, inaugurated in April 2018 and September 2022. In addition, a 15-bed facility in Prayagraj further extends its mission of compassionate elder care.
