Our Story
SAHIL VRADHASHRAM was established as a registered organization under the Societies Act on 31st May 2008, inspired by the dream and vision of Ms. Revati Sharma. The ashram was founded to support elderly individuals struggling for dignity and survival in the absence of care from their sons and daughters.
The journey began modestly in a rented house. The inauguration took place in the presence of a few close friends and well-wishers. The very next day, news of the initiative appeared in local newspapers, bringing unexpected attention. Soon, Revati found herself overwhelmed with phone calls from elderly people facing neglect and emotional abandonment within their families.
Within a few days, six elderly individuals were admitted into the ashram, and Revati’s dream began to take shape. From that moment, their lives became inseparably linked with hers. With selfless dedication and compassion, she devoted herself entirely to their well-being, drawing upon her own learning and inner strength.
A committee of 15 members was initially formed to support the mission. Revati reached out to the wider community, seeking encouragement and assistance. However, to her deep astonishment and pain, many responses were discouraging rather than supportive. Some questioned her intent, saying:
“People abandon their responsibilities, and you are inviting trouble by taking them on. Why worry about those whose own children don’t care for them?”
Over time, even members of the organization began to lose faith and gradually became inactive. Eventually, Revati was left to carry the mission alone once again.
One evening, she sat in solitude, overwhelmed with tears as she watched her dreams appear to crumble. Her greatest concern was not for herself, but for the six elderly residents whose only hope was the ashram. She questioned how she would continue and whether fate had shown mercy upon them at all.
Yet, it was in this moment of despair that her resolve was truly tested—and strengthened.
