Our Story
Panchawati Vruddhashram was established in 1961 by Matru Seva Sangh, inspired by the wish of Kamalatai’s mother to create a home for aged workers and nurses who had dedicated their lives to the organization. Philanthropist Shrimant Rajabal Chitnavis generously donated three acres of land and ₹10,000, and the home was built at Dighori and named Laxmi Smruti in memory of Late Laxmibai Chitnavis.
The ashram admits senior citizens aged 50 years and above, except bedridden individuals. A new building constructed on the same premises accommodates around 100 residents, with separate sections for men and women, along with independent cottages, single rooms, shared rooms, and common halls.
The ashram provides comfortable accommodation, nutritious food, primary healthcare, and counseling support, while also organizing religious, cultural, and recreational activities to enhance the residents’ quality of life. A Ram Mandir within the premises hosts bhajans, kirtans, and spiritual gatherings.
Managed by a manager, lady warden, and support staff, the ashram is supported through resident contributions, government subsidies, and donations from individuals and organizations, helping it continue serving senior citizens for more than five decades.
