Our Story
The Family Welfare Agency (FWA) was established in 1950 to support underprivileged families displaced during the post-partition period. In 1952, it was registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950 (Reg. No. E-5(Bom)). Our work began in the B.D.D. chawls of Lower Parel, Mumbai—then a textile mill hub—providing essential community services.
Over the past seven decades, FWA has grown from welfare and remedial work to a more preventive and developmental approach.
Our programmes focus on creating a caring and holistic aging experience for the elderly within their families and communities. We also address community mental health, including support for individuals with mental illness.
Today, FWA serves diverse communities across four geographical areas in Mumbai.
Our Vision
To build a society where marginalized and underprivileged individuals can access their rights, participate meaningfully, and live with dignity, self-reliance, and well-being.
Our Mission
To understand, empower, and improve the quality of life of vulnerable groups, including the elderly, through comprehensive health and support services, awareness-building, networking, and advocacy.
