Our Story
In 1995, an Old Age Home for women was started on an experimental basis within the premises of Bapuji Children’s Home. Initially, it accommodated 10 elderly women who had either been abandoned by their families or had no one to care for them. The residents spent their days independently managing their routine activities, socializing with one another, interacting with the children, and watching television. They became fondly known as “Ajjis” (grandmothers) to the children. As they grew older and required more structured care, they were later shifted to a newly established Old Age Home facility.
In 2001, the first independent building of Bapuji Anand Ashram was constructed on a 2-acre plot to accommodate both men and women. This building included a dormitory for 10 residents, along with a kitchen, dining hall, reading room, and a small office. The second building, completed in 2004, provided accommodation for 40 residents. A third building, constructed in 2007, added capacity for another 40 residents. Currently, elderly residents of both genders reside at Bapuji Anand Ashram.
Most residents are generally healthy, experiencing common age-related conditions. Over the years, several residents have peacefully passed away at the Ashram. The Trustees ensured that their last rites were respectfully performed. Terminally ill residents received medical attention, comfort, and pain management support, enabling them to spend their final days with dignity and peace.
