Our Story
Originally from Mukka in Mangalore, Chandramathi moved to Bengaluru after her marriage. With a strong desire to contribute to society, she and her friends established the Nemmadi Lakshmi Narasimha Trust, driven by a shared vision of social service.
“The trust consists of 18 trustees, and we regularly visited ashrams, orphanages, and old age homes to donate money and distribute food. However, witnessing the poor living conditions in many old age homes deeply affected us. Many elderly residents were being served stale food and forced to live in unhygienic environments. This moved my mother to create a better place for them,” says her son, Subramanyam.
With this inspiration, Nemmadi Vishranthi Dhama was founded around 10 years ago. “Nemmadi” means peace of mind, and true to its name, the home provides a safe, caring, and comfortable environment for senior citizens. It offers all essential facilities, including nutritious food and proper medical care. Three nurses ensure residents take their medicines on time, and a doctor visits daily. Supported by three cooks and additional in-house staff, a dedicated team of 20 members looks after the residents’ well-being.
While some residents voluntarily pay for their stay, those from underprivileged backgrounds are accommodated free of cost. The home is sustained through the trust and generous donations from family, friends, and well-wishers. Many supporters also celebrate their birthdays at the home, sharing meals and spending quality time with the elderly to make them feel valued and loved.
Chandramathi personally oversees the home and is present at Nemmadi Vishranthi Dhama from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday. “We take care of all their needs. The home truly feels like a family,” adds Subramanyam.
Located in Vidhyamanya Nagar, Andrahalli, the old age home relies mainly on word-of-mouth for outreach and has earned a reputation for its warmth and hospitality.
Chandramathi’s compassion and generosity are reflected not just in this initiative but in many of her actions over the years.
